The acai berry craze swept the United States back in 2009. A little purple berry from Brazil was dubbed a “superfood” by Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Oz, and the rest is history. People began purchasing so much acai product that Brazilians were becoming deprived of their local beloved fruit and crops couldn’t keep up with the quick turn-around rates. Luckily, the craze stuck, production issues were solved, and now acai berries are available around the world.

What’s So Good about the Acai Berry?

Acai berries have a unique taste. It is a taste most commonly described as a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry. Some people even taste hints of dark chocolate. But, besides the delicious taste, these berries are also packed full of antioxidants, amino acids, and protein. Yes, protein!

Red and purple fruits, such as grapes and other various berries contain a compound called anthocyanin, which is believed to be a free-radical and an anti-aging ingredient. The acai berry has significant levels of anthocyanin which dubbed it the nicknamed, “Beauty Berry”.

  • Acai Juice:

    Acai juice is now fairly common and can be found at many corporate grocery stores, such as Kroger, Publix, and Costco. As well as many organic grocery stores, such as Whole Foods and Sprouts. It is likely that your local health food markets also carry this product.

  • Acai Bowls:

    Acai bowls are most prominent along beaches in places like California, Brazil, and Hawaii. With an ice cream like consistency, topped with fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, and honey, it’s no wonder the lines for one of these bowls can easily be up to a 30 minute wait! And it’s worth every minute.

  • Acai Smoothies:

    Like your average fruit smoothie, only more delicious. Make these at home by simply adding acai berries, acai juice, or acai powder to your list of ingredients.

Acai Berry Pills:

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to incorporate acai into your daily diet, acai berry pills can be found online and in various grocery and pharmaceutical stores.

Additional Acai Tips.

To get the full nutritional experience from the acai berry, make sure to check out ingredient lists of products before you buy. The main, if not only, ingredient should be the acai berry. If the ingredient list is longer than a few lines you will likely be sacrificing the benefits of the acai berry.
