Worrying about how we look while exercising is one of the greatest drawbacks and deterrents for both men and women. The fear of looking stupid or like you don’t really know what you’re doing is a common fear, but here’s why it’s far better to ditch the worrying and focus on what you can actually DO instead.

Efficiency and Effectiveness

Firstly, if you are currently working out, the real issue should be about whether or not you will actually reach your goal. Most women say they want to reach one or all three of these goals:

  • Better muscle tone
  • Lose fat weight
  • More energy and better health

There are very specific training parameters which should be followed in order to reach each of these goals. For example, all of them require both aerobic and resistance training. They also require exercise to take place which lasts between 30 to 60 minutes (at least) at a frequency of 4 to 5 times per week.

These are general training parameters, but specific ones also exist. For example, to lose fat weight, the body must do vigorous work with weights or resistance. While the resistance can take any form (cable machines, free weights, or body weight), it should be done each training session.

For those women who are too nervous to venture into the weights section of their local gym because of the fear of looking silly, there is really only one person who misses out. Unfortunately, an extra 10 or 20 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical cannot replace a few sets of bench press, shoulder presses and squats.

If you are avoiding something because of how you may or may not look, stop!

Take a deep breath, do your research or seek the assistance of a personal trainer who can guide you in the right direction. Step into that area and put your blinders on if you must; get in there, do your sets and get out!

There is another reason why you shouldn’t feel silly or lose confidence in yourself over how you might look… it’s the secret truth about the gym that no one really wants to say but pro’s know all about it…

The secret truth: everyone at the gym is insecure!

That’s right! Everyone you see at the gym is insecure in one way or another. Regardless of the brave faces, loud voices and macho behavior, you better believe that deep down, everyone lacks confidence! They are just as worried as you might be about looking silly, their body type and shape.

Just watch for a few moments and you’ll notice how often they check themselves in the mirror… this happens because of insecurity and the fear of being judged.

So let’s all get over ourselves!

If you want to reach your goals, set up the RIGHT program, take a deep breath and step into the gym with confidence. Everyone is there to improve their health and appearance! You might not even notice that after a few visits your confidence grows and you care less and less of what others might or might not be thinking!
