Motivation is a funny thing, especially when it comes to fitness – sometimes it ebbs, sometimes it flows. The one thing we know is that when your motivation starts to ebb, it’s time to get some inspiration. Now maybe it’s because we’re living in such tumultuous times, or maybe it’s just because we’ve been on a crazy Doomsday Preppers bender. Regardless, you should know that the FitBodyHQ team just does things differently, so without further ado, may we present to you: 5 Apocalyptic Movies To Fuel Your Workouts.

28 Days Later

You’ve got your standard-issue, laid-back zombie that we all know and love. Not much challenge there, but you’d know what’d be really motivating when you’re doing your next run? That’s right, zombies that run like Usain Bolt doing the 100 metres, feel no pain, and are bat-sh*t crazy. They’ll bite you, but don’t worry though, because unlike your usual zombie, they don’t want to consume you… just spread the disease-love. Greaaaaat.

Recommend exercise: High-intensity interval training sprints.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Forget about zombies, mutants and gangs of hoodlums, because when you’re being relentlessly chased by cyborgs from the future there’s only 1 thing you can do – RUN. These machines feel no pain, have no feelings and can keep going as long as their batteries last, so you’re going to need a lot  of stamina if you’re going to make it out of this workout alive. You’re also in an urban environment so you’ll need dynamic strength in order to make it over walls and knock out would-be muggers.

Recommend exercise: Low intensity cardio and crossfit training for all-round strength.

The Matrix

The Matrix is an interesting one, because even though there are feats of athleticism which defy belief, it’s ultimately all in the mind. If you’re going to stand even the slightest chance of surviving a workout with Agent Smith, you’re going to need a will of steel and a zen-like mental composure.

Recommend exercise: Yoga and kung fu.

The Day After Tomorrow

All this talk about climate change is serious business, but it doesn’t affect your workout right? Wrong! When you’re going up against a new ice age, you’re going to need to make sure you’ve got what it takes to brave the storm (no more puns)… You’ll be walking long distances in the snow and to make it worse, you’ll be lugging a heavy backpack filled with survival gear. So to that end you’re going to need fantastic cold-weather stamina and lower body strength.

Recommend exercise: Low intenstity cardio, squats and deadlifts.

Armageddon

When you’re facing the imminent arrival of an asteroid which will hit the Earth with the force of ‘10,000 nuclear weapons’ you’re going to have to look at seriously modifying your workout because your usual pilates and hot yoga session just isn’t going to cut it. Our advice… go out in style.

Recommend exercise: Sex and chocolate.
