If you are looking for ways to change your life you are not alone. The internet is full of people asking for advice and looking for ways to increase their happiness. The reasons for why they are not happy or want to make a change range from working in a job they hate, wanting to move to a different place, feeling stuck, unable to make decisions, wanting to experience something new and different, etc the list goes on. Happiness is important for your well being. But sometimes we feel we are stuck in a situation.

If you are feeling like you need to make a change then you should listen to your instincts and assess what it is you are unhappy with. Here are a few tips you may want to try to get the ball rolling and get you on a new path.

  1. Go Outside

    Walking in the mountains, along a beach or lake. Through the woods, forest or in the countryside or in a park. Get out and get some fresh air somewhere quiet, it will help you de-stress and clear your mind. Look at the beauty that surrounds you. Having time to think about what it is you want from your life and really think about where you want to be and what you want to do. Start formulating a plan of how you can get there. Look at what you want and the steps needed to get you there.

  2. Declutter

    Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed by stuff, too many clothes, too many things we just don’t use or need anymore. Having a clear out can help not only clear your home but your mind as well. There are so many ways to approach decluttering, you can go room by room or one popular way is the Konmari Method where you sort by category. But the goal for all of them is the same, reduce your belongings and be left with things you need and enjoy.

  3. Think About What You Do For A Living

    Are you happy? We spend a lot of time working and it is necessary to pay those bills but this does not mean you should stay in a situation you are unhappy in. If you are not happy in your job make a list of what you would like to do for a living, or what you want to change about your current situation. Maybe you like the type of work just not the location or the organization/company you work for, and then start to think of ways to get to where you do want to be. Is it a matter of looking for new opportunities and applying for other jobs or do you need to go back to studying or learn a new skill? Do you want to start your own business? The sooner you start to work towards what you do want the sooner you will be able to quit that job that makes you unhappy.

  4. Relocating

    If you want to move to a different City/State or Country etc then start your research. Look online at the job opportunities available, check house prices/rent prices. Have you visited already? If not, start by arranging a vacation/short get away and visit the areas you like the look of where you can afford to live – if you have been already but only in summer then go in winter and vice versa. Places can be very different during different seasons. If you are wanting to move overseas then there will be the added research of visa requirements etc.

  5. Make A Decision

    You know you want to make a change in your life but you just cant decide. What should you do? The only person who can decide is you. It may seem daunting but if you don’t make some kind of decision then the reality is you are unlikely to make any changes. At some point you are going to need to make a decision and take that leap of faith. If it turns out you don’t like it then move on to something else, at least you will be doing something. You wont know unless you try.

There Are Always Options

You just need to spend some time thinking about what you want and ways to make it happen. You are the one who needs to put the wheels in motion, there is no time like the present. Every day is an opportunity to change your life.
