Read further for some tips, tricks and ideas to keep you on track during a vacation get-away without compromising all the fun. Planning the perfect summer getaway is always a challenge, especially if one wants to avoid typical vacation weight gain. Have no fear, it is really simple and super fun to plan a fitness inspired vacation for yourself, or better yet, the whole family.
Practice Intermittent Fasting
If your vacation has a tight schedule, intermittent fasting might be the best way to avoid the extra weight gain without having to spend more time actually working out. The idea of intermittent fasting is to reduce the amount of allowable ‘eating’ hours in the day. Someone practicing intermittent fasting would choose to eat one or two larger meals containing more calories during a short period of the day.
Vacations usually mean eating out every day. Even cutting out breakfast and eating a larger lunch or dinner meal would greatly reduce the additional vacation calories. Also try to refrain from consuming any calories two hours before bedtime for optimal intermittent fasting results. Explore Your Surroundings
Anywhere you plan to vacation will have new roads and paths to explore. So grab your favorite walking shoes and get to know what’s around you. One of the greatest things about exploring a new city is the ability to uncover the hidden gems that one may not necessarily see if driving or taking a taxi. Another benefit to walking around any vacation town is that you may find interesting activities to check out later in the evening.
Wake Up Early
Sleeping in too late during a vacation is not always the best thing to do. That doesn’t mean that you should wake up at the crack of dawn every day. Set an alarm for 7 or 8 hours after you go to sleep for best results. This will give you a full day, as well as more time to squeeze in a short but sweaty HIIT workout (High Intensity Interval Training). Shop for Workout Clothes
If you are mid vacation and stuck in a workout rut – get out and grab some new workout gear. Not only will you have fond memories where you got those awesome yoga pants, but it may inspire you to kick up a good vacation sweat.
Research Active Tours
Many vacation destinations offer various activities to keep you entertained and fit at the same time. For example, there may be a bicycle tour to various local wineries, or a kayak paddle around the bay. Where there is a fit body will, there is surely an active vacation way.
Drop-In to a Local Gym
Fitness studios are popping up all over the place, especially in cute vacation towns. When you are exploring a new city, be sure to drop by a new studio, not only to keep up with your fitness routines, but to try something new. Inquire online or with the front desk, they may offer vacation specials for ‘out-of-towners’.
Drink Lots of Water
Sodium, alcohol and sweets oh my. The vacation diet is sure to dry out the body. Always pack a portable water container and keep it with you during your travels. Topping up your water levels is one of the best ways to prevent weight gain and bloating. Just make sure to source clean drinking water if you are traveling to exotic places. You don’t want to experience “Montezuma’s Revenge”.
Ask Around
Be the talk of the town. Chatting to the locals will not only give you more vacation memories, but it can also lead to uncovering local secrets, stories and cool places to check out. Make sure to ask about hiking trails, look out points and fitness inspired activities.
Dance The Night Away
The easiest way to keep fit while venturing away from home is to get your groove on. Most vacation destinations offer music and dancing. Kick off your shoes and let loose. You can burn lots of calories and create lasting memories for a lifetime.
Integrating fitness activities into your vacation doesn’t have to be limited to a boring hotel workout room. Get out and explore, you may discover things that you couldn’t find on the internet, all the while getting a good workout. Happy travels all!
