As much as we love working out, sometimes we just don’t have a lot of time. You don’t want to skip your workout, but you don’t want it to go on forever either. So what’s a good gym-loving girl (or guy) to do? The good news is that you don’t need to skip it, you can sneak in an intense workout into less time by using exercise complexes.

Despite the name, it’s actually pretty simple: you flow from one exercise to the next without resting or changing the weight (if you’re using weights, and if you’re not, read why women should lift weights to find out why you should be).

And because you don’t take a rest between one move and the next, these complexes – or simply combo’s – deliver a fantastic strength as well as cardiovascular workout. They’ve got a little of that high-intensity interval training component (that we so love) already built into them.

In other words: not only will you get your workout done faster, but you’ll also burn some serious calories. And you don’t just need to do these when you’re short on time either, these can be a fully-functional workout in their own right.

Just remember though, that these shouldn’t replace your strength training workouts, since you won’t be changing the weight between exercises you likely won’t be hitting some muscles as hard as you could be – intensity leads to spectacular results.

Putting it together, for example: you could set yourself a workout schedule where you do one or two combo workouts and two or more strength training workouts a week. Mix in some cardio, a couple of rest days and some good clean eating and you’ve got a recipe for ravishing results.

18 Incredible Combo Exercises for Ravishing Results

Before we get onto the exercises, just a recap of how you do these: don’t rest between exercises in a single combo, and if you’re using weights, pick a weight which is light enough for you to complete all exercises in the combo.

We’ve covered them before so we won’t include them all here again, but burpees are one of the best – if not the best – combo exercises you can do, so make sure you include them in your workouts. Now, let’s move on to a few you may not have seen before…

Those are just a few of the many – many! – combo exercises out there, some will suit you better than others, so pick your favorites and add them in to your next workout. For more of a challenge you could stack a few combination exercises to create a bigger exercise complex – i.e. you do more than one combo without resting between them.
